HMS Maori, Malta Overview
HMS Maori is one of the wrecks of World War II around Maltese islands. It is a popular freediving and Scubadiving site which is half burried in the sand at the bottom of the sea with Plethora of marine life constituting an artificial reef.
HMS Maori is the shallowest wreck dive with a maximum depth of 16 meters in Malta. Unlike most deep dives around Maltese islands, the shallow dive site of Maori is accessible from the shore and is a favorable spot for beginners. It was formerly a 115 m long British destroyer that was damaged in February 1942 by the German air raid attack. Consequently, it sank in the Grand Harbour of Valletta, and today, its wreck is a popular freediving and scuba diving site.
This real war wreck is about 42 meters in length and quite broken. It is half buried in the sandy bottom, with its front against the rocky slope of the reef. Covered with green weeds, it has varied
