Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, Mount Abu Overview

Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University is an international, non-governmental spiritual organization founded by Dada Lekhraj Kripalani in the 1930s, with its headquarters located in Mount Abu. The hill of the Brahma Kumaris is also called 'Madhuban' (forest of honey). The group is a largely self-sufficient community, with a large international family of practising yogis who come here each year.

The ashram has a museum that displays the knowledge that Lord Shiva gave to the Prajapita Brahma. The 50-acre land also provides ample space for meditation and spiritual learning as well as to connect yourself to the stunning, undisturbed natural surroundings. You can also witness Baba’s Hut where the founder, Dada Lekhraj Kripalani meditated day in and day out. Raja Yoga is the form of meditation taught here which derives its teachings from spirit possession and mediumship. With over 8,500 centres in 100 countries, the movement has claimed to have 825,000 regular students.

Activities at Brahma Kumaris Ashram

Meditation: When visiting the Brahma Kumari’s Ashram, meditation plays a huge part in the entire day. The earliest meditation starts at 3:00 AM. This is called the Raj Yoga meditation and is centred mainly around the soul. You can choose any spot in the entire ashram to conduct your meditation. After a short break for tea, the morning meditation then commences. Aside from this, there is also an evening meditation that takes place and individuals are encouraged to meditate for a period of 2 minutes, 5 times a day.

Lectures: These are conducted for anyone who wishes to attend. These lectures are not traditional lectures but a way to talk about life experiences or different issues that people have faced and how they overcome them. You will receive knowledge from people who have attained enlightenment as well as those who have much to see but have experienced something extraordinary.

Murli Class: Conducted every morning from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, the Murli class mainly talks about the wisdom and teachings of the founder of Brahma Kumari’s Ashram. The knowledge imparted during these one-hour sessions is said to be of divine power and helps you experience your very own spiritual awakening.

Accommodation

To be accommodated into the ashram for a short visit you must be eligible for at least one of these three:

You must be affiliated with the ashram for a period of 6 months and complete a 7-day course before arrival.
You can stay at the ashram for the duration of a seminar or workshop.
Individuals and families are also welcome to the Brahma Kumari’s Ashram if they acquire a letter of authentication from their regional centre.

Food at Brahma Kumaris Ashram

The Brahma Kumari’s Ashram serves its guests a modest, purely vegetarian meal. Cuisines for these meals range from Gujarati thalis to North Indian or South Indian meals. Every single staff and guest member is served the same meal according to the diet regulations by the kitchen. Aerated drinks and junk food is strictly prohibited on the premises. Consumption of Alcohol and Drugs is prohibited and discouraged.

How To Reach Brahma Kumaris Ashram Mount Abu

From Abu Road Train Station, the Brahma Kumari’s Ashram (Shantivan) is a 15-minute drive. You can take a bus or a taxi or rent a car from outside the train station itself.
