King’s Square

Konigsplatz square offers a blend of classicism, modern lifestyle and antiquity in Munich. It has spacious gardens and wide promenades, making it famous for leisure strolls or sunbathing. It hosts various open air concerts such as the Summer in the City Festival, with various music stars.

You can enjoy well preserved landmarks and various artworks at museums around the square including the Staatliche Antikensammlungen, the State Collection of Antiquities, the Glyptothek and the Lenbachhaus. The square which dates back to the 19th century is built on the model of the Acropolis in Athens and is detailed in the classic European style. There is also a walkable circular spiral in the middle of the square featuring book titles of about 310 authors which were excluded and black listed from the society by the Nazi regime in 1933.. One can enjoy elegant architecture and Millennia-old art at the square which offers deep historical insights of the place which was once used by the National Socialist Party for their meetings, party events and book burnings.
