Visible from all points in Mykonos, the Kato Milli are multi-photographed windmills located in the South of Chora, Mykonos capital. These windmills mostly face towards the North, situated between the picturesque Alefkandra and Neochori areas, overlooking Little Venice and the crystal clear sea waters. There are currently private residences in some of the windmills, a museum in one, and some that appear to be abandoned.
They were constructed primarily in the 16th century by the Venetians and used for processing wheat. Since Mykonos was a highly underdeveloped island, grinding wheat was a significant source of income for the locals.
