Nagore is a beautiful little coastal town on the eastern shore of India, only fueled by the finger-licking delicacies found in the place. What is Nagore Famous for?
The Nagore Dargah, built over the tomb of Sufi saint Shahul Hameed is the most famous of all places in Nagore. The saint, locally referred to as Nagore Andavar, meaning the 'ruler of Nagore'. Although he was a saint, he was believed to have miraculous powers, having demonstrated them to cure the ailment of the Hindu ruler of Thanjavur, king Achyuta Deva Raya. With this, his followers expanded to accommodate people of all the regions residing in the place. Thus, while his dargah was constructed by his followers, many contributing to the minarets on the tomb, the tallest minaret was contributed by the Maratha ruler of Thanjavur, Pratap Singh. Devotees even today, visit the place with faith in their heart of the magic of the hoky Sufi saint.

Being a cultural meeting point of the two most dominant religion of India, the Hinduism and Islam, festivals in Nagore are celebrated with great pomp and show, where it is quite a unique experience to blend in with their culture, food and festivals. With finger-licking dishes like soondal, vada, vada, bajji, etc., you would not go on an empty stomach at all. Having quite a lavish lifestyle, the people of Nagore stay true for spending their money on festivals and weddings extensively. One of the most popular festivals includes Milad Nabi, the Prophet's birthday, which is almost similar to Halloween, with children dressing up and visiting houses in their neighbourhood to collect sweets. The other major festival is the Kandhuri festival.

It is better to pre-book your accommodation and transport to avoid any last minute hassle. Do carry a lot of sunscreen because it can get really hot. Other sun protection things such as sunglasses and hats should be carried as well. Keep snacks with you at all times. If you are visiting the pilgrim centres, make sure you are dresses appropriately.
