The archaeological museum is housed in the Old Town of Naxos and is one of the oldest museums in Greece. This recently recognised historic site is housed in a Venetian structure that was constructed sometime between 1600 and 1800. The five-storeyed museum houses artifacts from the Cycladic, Minoan and Mycenaean periods- all of which make up Naxos' rich history.
In addition to artifacts, the museum also hosts a number of educational exhibits that educate visitors about the island's history. The exhibits at the museum are divided into three main sections: external structure, storage and workrooms and an ephemeral section. The extensive displays give visitors a good sense of what life was like for residents of Naxos during each historical period- making it one of Greece's most famous museums.
