Toyapakeh Diving

Located off the northwest shore of Nusa Penida, Toyapakeh is one of Indonesia's most beautiful diving sites. The depth here is around 3-4m closer to the shore and increases as you swim towards the ocean. Diving can be done at Toyapakeh all around the year by divers of all levels, but only with a professional instructor to accompany you. Depth ranges from 5-40m with 15-25m visibility.

Located just below Adiwana Warnakali Dive Resort, the shore at Toyapakeh first leads into a coral plateau, after which the sea floor drops and creates two terraces. The first one is about 12-15m deep, while the second is 40m in depth. This geography, on top of the fact that the site is well protected from strong ocean currents, makes it an ideal dive site.

Diving at Toyapakeh at different hours throughout the day will introduce you to different marine creatures. During early mornings, the waters are frequented by scorpion fish, moray eels, puffers, giant trevallies, trumpet fish, and anthias. Around late morning to noon, there are schools of clown fish, bommies, jackfish, angel fish, barracudas, and the occasional turtles and Napoleon wrasses. Deeper along the downward slope, you may spot larger pelagics. Mola-molas are a frequently spotted species here.

Although the site is well protected from the current flowing through Ceningan Channel, diving only during high tides is still best. However, as you go towards deeper waters, the direction of your dive may change depending on the current flow. During slack tides, you can expect to see smaller creatures like orangutan crabs, nudibranchs, and blue ribbon eels when the water is standstill with no current.
