Wat Si Don Chai Temple, Pai Overview
Believed to be the first temple of Pai, Wat Sri Don Chai in Mae Hong Son Province is over 700 years old. It is located near Pai Walking Street, Wat Luang, and Pai Hospital. The principal deity is Phra Buddha Singh, adorned in a golden drape. Smaller Buddha statues surround the main image of Buddha.
The ubosot itself is a pretty sight to behold with its ornate exterior decor. There are two Naga-shaped handrails at the front door and stunning murals inside. The oldest records go back to 1478, when the bronze statue was established here after being transferred from Nopburi Sri Nakhonping Chiangmai. The annual worshipping ceremony takes place on April 13 every year.
