Pi Leh Lagoon

Pi Leh Bay, also known as Pi Leh Lagoon or Ao Pileh, is a canyon-like inlet that almost bifurcates Koh Phi Phi Leh. Located on the eastern side of the island, the lagoon is around a 30-minute boat ride away from the Tonsai Bay jetty. Stretching for 600m, Pi Leh Bay is dotted with majestic limestone cliffs. The clear water offers snorkeling opportunities that can be accessed from the boat itself.

Expect to come across an array of tropic fish species, such as damsel fish, rabbit fish, rainbow fish, and moon wrasses. Some of them may even make curious interactions with you as you approach the coral reefs. The water here is warm and quite shallow near the shore, with only about one-meter depth, making it ideal for even novice swimmers. 

While exploring Pi Leh Bay, make sure to visit the Viking Cave near the entrance of the lagoon. Standing slightly above sea level, the cave is an opening within a cliff with ancient wall paintings of old European sailing ships resembling the type of vessels used in the Vikings era. While it is presumed that native inhabitants of this place painted the pictures after the European ships that sailed to Thailand for trade, there is no actual anthropological proof of their origin.
