Planning a Trip? Ask Your Question
Going around in a tuk-tuk, the traditional three-wheeler motorcycle you will find in abundance in the streets of the city is one of the best things to do in Phnom Penh. You can either make direct negotiable arrangements with a local tuk-tuk driver or book yourself a tour via an operator. It is the easiest and breeziest mode of transportation for Phnom Penh sightseeing and a must-have experience.
The top spots to cover in a tuk-tuk tour would be Wat Phnom Temple, the Royal Palace, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum. If you book directly, you can choose the attractions you want to visit and give the driver an itinerary accordingly. However, if you book through a tour operator, they will likely have their itineraries that you will need to follow.
You may even opt for a tuk-tuk food tour in which you will be taken to different restaurants and pubs to try authentic local cuisine. The food-and-drink tours are dominated by seafood, meat, and multiple servings of beer. Remember to try fish amok (a type of steamed coconut fish wrapped in banana leaves), Samlor Machu trey (sweet and sour fish in soup), Bai sach chrouk (grilled pork and broken rice), Twa ko (Cambodian sausage), and Char kroeung sach ko (stir-fried lemongrass beef). While traveling in a tuk-tuk, remember to cover yourself well against the sun and hot winds. Use scarves, hats, sunscreen, and shades for protection.
