Mai Khao Beach, Phuket Overview

The longest and the quietest of all the beaches in Phuket, Mai Khao is a great option for people seeking some quiet time. This is the closest beach to Phuket International Airport and begins right where Nai Yang Beach ends. Part of a protected national park, the beach has mostly a deserted feel to it, with fewer people and vendors. Some luxury resorts are located at this beach.

The Mai Kao beach is a lesser developed part of the Sirinath National Park. With its name literally translating to white wood, this 11 km long stretch along the coast is perfect for a long and uninterrupted walk. Once a year, this beach hosts the Songkran festival, where you might be lucky enough to witness a baby turtle release.

Situated next to the airport, this waterpark has a wide range of slides, tunnels, spinning funnels and pools with artificial waves which surely every family would enjoy. Though the entry fee is high, the experience will be worth it.

4. Visit Wat Mai Khao

Though there is nothing exceptional about this temple's architecture, the hidden bird sanctuary in the temple and a lake surrounding it is a great way to enjoy here. As it is quite a strict temple, a casual visit is not recommended.

How to Reach Mai Khao Beach

Local Taxi

Unless you understand and speak Thai, hiring a local taxi from Phuket airport would be the best option, though it is not budget-friendly. It is a 20-minute drive to the Turtle village or any of the resorts along the beach.

Drive Your Own Car

Choose the main highway 402 as Mai Khao beach is easily accessible from here. Follow the signs to Turtle village and drive past the large hotels to find yourself on the beach. There also is a road from the Turtle village that leads directly to the beach via 'Mai Khao Dream' resort.
