Skaftafell Park is located between Klaustur and Höfn in the south of Iceland. Skaftafell Park has an array of hiking trails and the vast campground has amenities for tents, folding camping trailers and camping vehicles.
One of the most renowned activities, here is glacier tourism. However, the campground is open only from 1st May to 30th September, though camping during the off-season is possible only after permission is sought from the park personnel. For tourists, there are several engrossing activities such as hiking, glacier hiking, discovering the Skaftafell Ice caves and touring Skaftafell traditional farmhouses. Due to the natural beauty and facilities provided by this park, many tourists prefer visiting this place. It was declared as part of the bigger Vatnajokull National Park on 7th June 2008. Skaftafell Park has been safeguarded since 1967, with the purpose of making it accessible to the public and at the same time also preserving the flora and fauna, topography and cultural remnants.
