A town and district in the Sakarya Province of the Marmara region, Sapanca is known for its lakes, plateaus, creeks and lush greenery. This Turkish retreat is merely an hour and a half's drive away from Istanbul and is an excellent weekend retreat if you enjoy the countryside. The Sapanca lake, one of the prime spots of the town, is studded with cottage cafés and restaurants and is a great place to relax and listen to the sound of nature. Kirkpinar houses numerous plant species and is an abode of pristine wilderness. A must-visit in Sapanca, it has several breathtaking locations to stroll through. In addition, several areas in and around Sapanca, including Masukiye, Dikmen, Sogucak, Cigdem, Inonu and Sultanpinar plateau, are tourist favourites solely for their natural and stunning backdrops. Aygir Creek's connection to Sapanca Lake and Istanbuldere are two more natural wonders that offer wonderfully distinct views.
Sapanca houses several monuments from the Ottoman period, some of which have now been turned into museums. It also provides rejuvenating experiences in the form of thermal baths and springs. Sapanca, Masukiye and Kartepe are great holiday destinations, especially for couples on their honeymoon. It is a great place to unwind on an extended trip to Turkey.
