Batang Ai National Park, Kuching Overview

Batang Ai National Park is a national park in Malaysia which can be accessed through the largest man-made lake Batang Ai. Orangutans (pongo pygmaeus) can be widely observed while on the treks offered or while staying in the longhouses or night camps.

Batang Ai National Park is also the place where Iban first settled. Infact, the Iban longhouses are one of the prime tourist attractions of the place. It gives an insight into the life and history of Iban. On the way back, follow the Berikut river to reach Tapang tree which is respected among the Iban for its height, white wood and broad branches. How to Reach Batang Ai National Park

Batang Ai National Park can be reached by traditional longboat from the Batang Ai public jetty. It would take roughly two hours to reach the park, an hour for traversing across the Hydro Lake and an hour for travelling across Batang Ali River.

It is recommended to make the travel arrangements well in advance as there is no public longboat service available. Express buses serve the national park from Kuching to Sri Aman which takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, followed by another 2-hour local bus ride from Sri Aman to Lubok Antu which can further take one to the park located in absolute proximity.
