Sialkot is one of Pakistan's smaller cities, but it is one that has significantly contributed towards the economy of Pakistan. This city is famous for its production of both, sporting goods and surgical products, in addition to some metal and plastic industries. So, even though it has a lot of commercial and industrial importance, that does not mean that it is without any cultural significance.
Sialkot is famous for being the birthplace of a Muslim scholar, poet and a renowned philosopher , Dr. Muhammad Iqbal. In addition to this, the rich cultural heritage of the country, as it has continuously changed hands for hundreds of years, makes this city unique in its own right. Not only is it an important commercial hub, it has a lot of cultural events as well as beautiful architecture and even natural scenery. Sialkot also prides itself in being very rich in the authentic 'Punjabi' culture. In the old part of town you will see a complex system of streets that lead to homes, bazaars and oftentimes even offices! But, if you are a traveler on foot, you will have to be careful on these streets. Traffic is crazy and the locals predominantly use auto rickshaws to travel - as the public transport system was only recently launched. So you will have to learn the ways of haggling for prices, but more often than not, you will be able to ask the drivers to take you 'by meter', meaning the standard metered fare. And do not worry, if you ever find that you are in a bind, the locals will surely help you figure out where you need to be, in how much time and in what sort of fare!
