The Facciatone is the unfinished façade of the Siena Cathedral’s ambitious 14th-century expansion project, located in the cathedral complex in Siena, Italy. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the city’s medieval rooftops and surrounding Tuscan countryside. As part of the cathedral’s museum (Museo dell'Opera del Duomo), it offers a unique perspective on the city’s history and architectural heritage.
The interior of the facade was initially supposed to be on the side of the Facciatone that faces Piazza Jacopo della Quercia. The Facciatone provides access to other tourist attractions as well as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, Piccolomini library, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo and Facciatone, Crypt and Baptistry.
However, the steep and narrow staircase makes the pathway difficult for many people but is worth the climb due to the magnificent views it provides thus encouraging many tourists to visit this place.
