Palazzo Pubblico, Siena Overview

The Palazzo Pubblico is a Gothic-style building located in Piazza del Campo, the main square of Siena, Italy. Built in the 13th century, it serves as the seat of the city’s government and houses the Civic Museum, which features frescoes like the famous Allegory of Good and Bad Government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Its striking façade and the adjoining Torre del Mangia make it one of Siena’s most iconic landmarks.

The palace boasts a remarkable Gothic exterior and even more remarkable interiors. Every room inside the palace contains frescoes and these were commissioned by the governing body of the city. Much like the rest of the city, one can spot Renascita grandeur. The frescoes by Lorenzetti in a series (on government) is one of the more famous frescoes dealing with secular themes. This set of frescoes go by the name of The Allegory of Good Government.
