Summer Garden, St. Petersburg Overview

The Summer Garden, established in 1704 by Peter the Great, is one of St. Petersburg's oldest and most picturesque parks. Located along the banks of the Neva River, it features beautifully landscaped grounds, marble statues, fountains, and manicured flower beds that reflect European design influences. Highlights include the intricate lattice fencing, the Summer Palace of Peter the Great, and the iconic fountains, such as the restored Neptune Fountain.

Located at the intersection of the Fontanka and the Neva rivers, the Summer Garden is a thing of true beauty. It is one of the most scenic and oldest gardens of St. Petersburg and indeed Russia. The Summer Palace is also adjacent to the garden. The garden is popular among couples and people looking for some leisure time. The garden had actually been damaged quite considerably in the 18th century during floods. Over the years the park had been neglected and it's condition deteriorated. However, major renovations in the late 20th century restored the park back to it's initial glory days. There are a total of 79 sculptures, dating back to the 17th and 18th century that are placed thoughtfully all over the park. There are also numerous fountains, and the entire park is spectacularly arranged with trees and flowerbeds, enhancing the aesthetics greatly.
