Kepler Track , Te Anau Overview

Kepler Track is 60 kilometres hiking track that opened in 1988, intending to showcase Fiordland's best features, including moss-draped beech forest, prolific birdlife, high tussock country, colossal mountain ranges, cascading waterfalls, vast glacier-carved valleys, luxuriant river flats, limestone formations and many more.

Kepler track is named after Johannes Kepler and is one of New Zealand's most fabulous walks administered by the New Zealand Departhe track named after Johannes Kepler. The way is one of New Zealand's Great Walks and is issued by the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC). One can witness small streams on the track that need to be stepped across safely. While the other multi-day walks were constructed out of necessity, the Kepler track was specially built as a tourist spot for pleasure. The track is constructed in a very easy-to-climb manner with bridged streams and stairs on the steep areas. Ideally, people stay here for a period of 2-3 days.

Accommodation

The DoC (Department of Conservation) has three huts and two campsites that are dotted along the track. In the summer months, you can find running water, solar lighting, tables and seating and cooking facilities. From late Oct to late April bookings are required for all huts and campsites on the Kepler track. DoC backcountry hut tickets or annual hut passes are required during off-peak season. through any department of conservation, office huts can be booked online.

Campsites are usually located at great scenic locations and are near to huts. The office huts may not be used for accommodation but its facilities of running water and clean tap water may be used by walkers.

How To Reach Kepler Track

Kepler track is located in the south-west of the south island in New Zealand, which is situated approximately 50 minutes walk away from the Fiordland National Park.
The track can be accessed by road from the Lake Te Anau Control Gates by car or a long 50-minute walk. On the other hand, there is another option available that provides access to Rainbow Reach which is 10 minutes drive from Te Anau.
To ease commuting issues, there are shuttle buses available that operate during the summer months from entry to exit points on the track, whereas a permanent boat service is scheduled which gives the tourists access to Brod Bay.
