Trabzon Castle, also known as the Walls of Trabzon, is the defensive city wall structure surrounding the old town of Trabzon. It stretches from the hill to the shore of the Black Sea. The top of the castle has an exquisite view, overlooking the sea and the city on one side and surrounded by the hills on the other.
Its construction dates back to the Byzantine era, and its primary purpose was to function as the city's walls. It is a notable historic place to visit, and one can find some of the oldest buildings in the city there. The Trabzon Castle mainly consists of three parts: the upper castle, the middle castle, and the lower castle. The upper castle protects the citadel, which has been through multiple modifications over time. The middle castle has mosques, baths, Governor's mansion, and the royal bridge. And the lower castle extends till the sea. Its design and structure provide a glimpse into Ottoman architecture. Since it is located in the centre of the city, it is quite easy to reach there, and the ruins of the previous Byzantine imperial palace are also there.
