Trier

Trier, Germany is an ancient city situated on the banks of the Moselle River. Known as the oldest city in Germany, it has a long history and has been a major cultural and economic center since the Roman period. It is the birthplace of Karl Marx and home to ancient Roman monuments, medieval churches, and a number of Baroque architectural marvels.

Trier's location in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of southwestern Germany makes it a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside and for visiting nearby Luxembourg, which is just a short drive away. The main reason to visit Trier is to explore its impressive collection of Roman monuments, including the Porta Nigra, the city's main gateway; the Imperial Baths; and the Roman Bridge. There are also many other historic sites, such as the Cathedral of St. Peter, the Church of Our Lady, the Electoral Palace, and the castle of the Archbishop of Trier.
