Nicknamed Lovers’ Leap, Swami Rock is in the port town of Trincomalee. It is best known for the Koneswaram Kovil, a famous Hindu temple of the country that is perched atop it. The Portuguese initially destroyed the temple in the 17th century and rebuilt three centuries later. It is most world renowned for spotting blue whales.
Swami Rock is a popular spot for diving, thanks to the stunning coral and marine life and it is one of the greatest vantage points to spot numerous blue whales. The best time to visit Swami Rock is in May to August, for greater underwater visibility during diving and frequent sightings of the whales.
