Tsavo East National Park is famous for its large herds of elephants, often seen dust-bathing with the red volcanic soil, earning them the nickname "Red Elephants of Tsavo." It's also famous for the "Big Five" - lions especially maneless lions, leopards, buffaloes, and both black and white rhinoceros as well as cheetahs. Established in 1948 and spanning over 13,747 square kilometers, it's one of Africa's oldest and largest parks, offering an authentic safari experience.
The park is home to giraffes, zebras, hyenas, cheetahs, hippos, and crocodiles. The Galana River attracts more animals like waterbucks, Lesser Kudu, Gerenuk, and Hirola. The park also has around 500 bird species. It features vast arid landscapes with attractions like the world's longest lava flow (Yatta Plateau), towering Mudanda Rock, the Aruba Dam, a magnet for wildlife and beautiful Lugard Falls, a series of rapids on the Galana River along with unique flora adding to its charm.
