Tearooms, York Overview

York's tearoom culture has been a popular part of York's traditions which has its roots in the 18th and 19th centuries. The city's people have continued to cherish the afternoon tea ritual, which typically consists of finely brewed teas with their preferred accompaniment.

This has led to the opening of several tea rooms in York, some of which are even worldwide famous. One such is Betty's Tearoom.  This tearoom existed after the first world war in the Harrogate area and was started by Swiss confectioner and baker Fritz Bützer. The specialty of this tea room is the selection of rare e and fine teas and the world-class Lady Betty menu accompanied by the sweet tune of the piano playing in the corner. The teas are sourced from famous origin countries like India, China, and Sri Lanka—Country York homes six Betty Cafe Tea Rooms, which are most famous all over the neighborhood.

Apart from the Betty's, there are quite a number of tea rooms in York to try tea from. The Parlormade Cafe and Scone House in the Shambles is one of a kind. The other one is the Bennett's Cafe in High Petergate which serves the best of the flavors, including Darjeeling, Lapsang, Souchong, Assam, Peppermint, Camomile, and Raspberry. Cafe Concerto is another excellent choice, with 20 years of expertise and a unique themed ambiance. Visitors can also glimpse the Minster right from Cafe Concerto's window.
