The lower town of Zagreb is primarily a business and artistic hotspot and is also known for its spacious parks. As a result, most of the hotels lie here. The museums and art galleries are flanked by cafes, parks, and shops in the lower town. Its streets are wider and airier than its upper counterpart.
The lower town has Viennese influences such as its Austro-Hungarian buildings and the garden squares. Major visiting sites in the lower town include the Mimara Museum at Rooseveltov trg 5 which includes far east collections and works by Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Renoir, Degas, etc. and the Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters which hosts works of Bellini, Veronese and Carpeaux and the oldest of Croatia’s Glagolitic script. Besides that, the tram to Maksimir’s park and a walk through the botanical gardens are some good experiences one can have in the Lower town of Zagreb.
