Zagreb has its own Solar system. Concealed amongst its cozy, busy, and gorgeous streets are these art installations replicating the Earth’s solar system. Placed at the centre of Zagreb is the Sun, while The Nine Views lay scattered across different parts of the city.
Another amazing fact about the Zagreb Solar System is that the Sun and the planets were sculpted and placed with respect to each other to scale i.e. according to the solar system. Many come across the Sun, due to its location at the city’s centre but still fail to recognise this gigantic ball as a star and even fewer are aware or even able to locate the nine planets. This art installation was developed by the Croatian academician and sculptor Ivan Kozaric in 1971. The Sun is a simple bronze sphere measuring a metre in radius and beneath each such installation is a metal tile with inscriptions describing the name of the celestial body, its size and distance from the sun.
