Montana is known by various names such as the Treasure State and the Big Sky Country due to its precious metals mines and long stretches of plains which make the skyline look never-ending. The highlights of Montana are the Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Beartooth Highway, Flathead Lake, and the Big Sky Resort.
It is a haven for outdoor recreation. History buffs should check out the Lewis and Clark trail, which is a hiking trail following the exact footsteps of the explorer's Lewis and Clark where they mapped the newly acquired portion of the country. They were accompanied by the iconic Shoshone woman Sacagawea who served as an integral part of the expedition team as their guide and translator.
One of the first national parks in the US, and perhaps the world, is partly located in Montana, the Yellowstone National Park. Aside from that, there are over 55 different state parks in the state.
