Itinerary

Journey through the heart of Marais, Paris’s renowned Jewish district, on a guided walking tour. Discover the landmarks that honor the moments and people that changed the course of Jewish history, including the Mémorial de la Shoah, the Hector Guimard Synagogue, and Rue des Rosiers. Meet your guide just across from Hotel de Ville. Gain in-depth insight into the rich history of the Jewish community in Paris throughout the centuries. Learn about their initial settlements and discover why the Marais district became the hub of the Jewish community in the city. Pass through the area of the Holocaust Memorial (Mémorial de la Shoah) as your guide provides an overview of its historical significance from the exterior. Witness a moving exhibition of photographs, personal effects, and testimonies from Holocaust survivors that sheds light on the daily lives of Parisian Jews and their experiences during the war. Next, stroll around Village Saint Paul, an area where Jews were hidden during the Nazi occupation. Discover the radical changes that the area has undergone in recent years, now a charming neighborhood with numerous art studios and cafés. Make your way to the Hector Guimard Synagogue, the largest synagogue in the area, and discover its rich architectural and cultural significance. Admire its exterior, a masterpiece of Art Nouveau architecture featuring intricate ironwork, vibrant stained glass, and flowing organic lines. Stroll down the Rue des Rosiers, a bustling street lined with Jewish bakeries, delis, and shops. Hear stories and insights into the vibrant Jewish culture that still thrives in this charming corner of Paris. the walking tour was nice , initially we had a difficulty in recognizing the guide since the walks in Europe told me that the guide will have a orange flag at the meeting point , the guide but didn’t (Read More)have as he was not aware / not told so , hence I called walks in Europe to confirm the guide as I heard scammers are common in Paris ( sorry to say ) , it took 10 anxious minutes in the process , they could have prepared in a better way , otherwise the guide mr Thomas was nice/ apt/ good about the tour , the historical context and about places in la Marais related to Jewish history he elaborated well , visiting the shoah memorial was a solemn moment , hope the world cherishes humanity and equality , merci

It was the end of a long day, so the waking was a bit much, but necessary to see it all. Much of the tour was explaining what “used to be here”, so don’t expect so see anything similar to Jewish neigh (Read More)borhoods in other major cities. It has become very gentrified and homogenized.
