This is a place with only 3 large elephants. Whilst the elephants are moved around the grounds, fed, watered and bathed, this is their life. There is no information on saving future elephants, providi (Read More)ng bigger land, providing any activity, just the same routine day in day out, so tourists can just get up close and feed them. Basically it's a business. The cooking experience is something you can easily pick up on You Tube, very basic. There is no waterfall, due to no rain in months, they should tell you this. Tour stated 7 hours. Mine was 3 hours travelling both ways and 2.5 with elephants and 1.5 for lunch. Poor experience.

The trip to Khao Lak Elephant Sanctuary was such a special trip! The transfer to and from the hotel was easy and our guide once we were on site, Sai, was great! Sai is funny, personable, easy to under (Read More)stand and has great stories. She also deeply cares for the elephants and truly has their best interest in mind. This is a great option when seeking out an opportunity ethical sanctuary.

The sanctuary is relatively new, and currently has only female elephants. Males.can be quite aggressive, and a special.permit to house males must be earned. The elephants were gentle and carefully ten (Read More)ded by staff who live on the compound. Our access to the elephants was surprising to me. we walked with them, fed them, and basically played with them in a river. the thing I liked most was the respect and love of the staff for the animals. there were no rides or performances. Basically the elephants had no demands made of them. we also made pad Thai which was delicious and cooking was fun. Bathroom facilities could be better, cleaner, more.private, but that is a factor in so many places.

It was an amazing experience. The well being of elephants is a priority, so it is more of watching them then really interacting with them, but I respect that. The 2 hours driving from Pukhet to the Sa (Read More)nctuary was really nice in the air-conditioned bus with very comfortable sits and pleasant music. Feeding elephants, taking a part in their bath, cooking Padthai, going to the beach. The day was full of nice atmosphere and energy. Great value for money.
