Itinerary

Bletchley Park was the central site for British (and later Allied) codebreakers during World War II. The men and women who worked at Bletchley Park played a pivotal role in breaking the German Enigma codes and other Axis codes, contributing significantly to the Allied victory. Their work is believed to have shortened the Second World War by at least two years and saved millions of lives. Nowhere else in the world is linked to such a triumph and to world-famous names such as Betty Webb and Alan Turing. Whilst at Bletchley Park, you will have the chance not only to learn about the history of Allied Code breaking (going back to the First World War and why this is significant for the later development of Bletchley Park) but you will be able to walk the same corridors and rooms as the codebreakers, linguists, analysis, generals, spies, spymasters, and politicians who walked through these very same areas. Whilst here, you will also discover how Bletchley Park relied heavily upon its female staff, how women were central to the continued operations of the site, and hear recorded interviews with people who worked at the 'Government Code and Cypher School', the real name for Bletchley Park, during the war. During your time at Bletchley Park, you will also have the chance to explore the innovative technology developed here, including machines such as the Turning/Washman Bombe and Colossus, which played a crucial role in codebreaking efforts. In addition to its historical significance, Bletchley Park boasts beautiful grounds and gardens, providing a serene environment for visitors to enjoy while reflecting on the site's world-saving history. Why was Bletchley Park chosen for such an important role in the Second World War? And what was the pre and post-war history of the Mansion and Estate? Find out on this tour!
