Opened in December 1922, the Auckland Zoo is now in its 96th year of operation, and is one of New Zealand’s premier zoological parks. Spread out over 40 acres of land, located 6 km away from central Auckland, the Auckland Zoo is home to nearly 1400 animals of 138 different species. Divided into regions specific to where the different animals are from, the Auckland Zoo has recently begun work in developing a South-East Asian wing for the endemic flora and fauna of the region.
