Comfortable base for exploring Siena and the surrounding area

Hotel Moderno was easy to get to from the main train station although the 20 minute walk is mostly along quite busy roads. Our room was small but comfortable and clean and the staff were all very cheerful and friendly. The breakfast was extremely good, with a variety of cold meats, cheeses, cakes, pastries, cereal, yogurt etc. The centre of Siena is just 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel via escalators just across the road. We took a day trip from Siena to the 1,000 year old walled hill town of Monteriggioni (train and 40 minute walk), which I highly recommend.

Unfortunately the restaurant at the hotel was closed when we were there (early November) but it wasn't really a problem as there are plenty of places to eat in Siena. There was also an issue with an extra night being added to our bill by mistake, even though we had pre-booked via Booking.com, but this was eventually sorted out OK.

Excellent location. On main road, right next to escalators up to the historic city. Very friendly and helpful staff.

If you are staying for a day or two and don' t have problem with sleeping or noise while sleeping , this hotel is a great choice. Location is excellent!

Good location

Friendly staff and good location. Its right in front of the escalators that take you to the historic center which is very practical. The breakfast was good.

It is very outdated, the decoration is very old and the towels are terrible, they looked and felt like table cloths. You can hear all the noise from the hall.
