    About This Property

The Carnarvon Arms is a country inn, located next door to Highclere Castle, on the route of The Wayfarers Walk. This Grade II listed building offers guests free onsite parking and free WiFi throughout. The 18 bedrooms each have tea/coffee-making facilities, a flat-screen TV with Freeview, and a hairdryer. The property boasts a dining room with a high-vaulted ceiling, and a thriving friendly bar with a modern British menu. A traditional full English is available each morning, made using locally sourced produce. The property can cater for, and accommodate, parties and weddings. The inn is 5 miles from Newbury town centre and Newbury Race Course is 5.5 miles away. The Carnarvon Arms was built as a coaching inn in the 1800s. It provided a stop-off for travellers to Highclere Castle, now the setting for TV drama Downton Abbey.

    Very good
Nice stay apart from tired room in need of renovation.
Amy was extremely helpful and assisted us with taxi booking etc. The other staff were also very competent, friendly and helpful. The bar is very nice and the food was also very good.
Room was very tired and a bit worn. I understand that they will be renovated in January which I think is long overdue. If the accommodation had been already renovated I would have scored it a 10.

Welcoming, comfortable hotel, but needing a full maintenance schedule to be undertaken and someone overseeing the day t
It was a comfortable and welcoming hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable.
Sadly it was in need of a maintenance overall. We had to change rooms as the bathroom door would not close and by examination, never did. The new room was comfortable but the shower, however, was impossible to turn off completely and dripped all the time. Large water stains on the wall in the bedroom. Disappointed in the daily cleaning of the bathroom and non making of the bed on one occasion. The breakfast on the first morning was good, other 2 mornings there was no tables laid when we arrived and we had to find our own knives and forks and napkins. The bar area tables always seemed to sticky and were not wiped down regularly.

    Great internal space and staff
Breakfast, reception and parking all good
Room was lovely, but traffic noise and VERY NOISY MALE neighbours made sleeping until very late impossible. Not your fault i understand, but infuriating. I had to get out of bed to speak with them.

    Would stay again
Proximity to Highclere. Nespresso machine and pods in room. High quality breakfast and charming restaurant.
Front desk and restaurant staff were all fairly disgruntled and unpleasant comparatively. Having to make our own toast and troubleshoot their toaster when ordering a full service breakfast.
