Everything about our stay was wonderful.
The hotel is located on an island and access is determined by tide and weather conditions. The hotel reception team sent us clear and concise guidance regarding our arrival arrangements. We were greeted, land-side, by the lovely Richard who whisked us across the causeway whilst giving us a brief history of the island and hotel. As we alighted our transport, we were greeted by Simon who showed us into the Palm Court, offered us a refreshing drink and chatted with us about the hotel, our reason for our visit and told us something about himself. After 10 mins or so we felt very much part of the Burgh Island family. Our suite (Amy Johnson) was beautifully appointed, the public rooms (Palm Court, Grand Ballroom etc) are true to the art deco era and the island and surrounding seascape were stunning. The weather was kind and we sat, with a G&T, on the terrace overlooking the Mermaid Pool.
We took a delicious light lunch in the Palm Court and retired to our suite for a rest before dressing for dinner in The Grand Ballroom. The food was delicious, wine perfect, staff and service 1st class and the 3 piece group entertained us with wonderful old time numbers which were perfect for the setting. After dinner, we moved back into the Palm Court for coffee and a wee nightcap.
Breakfast was served in the Nettlefold restaurant where we had a fab table overlooking the sea. The staff and service were once again 1st class.
After checking out. We were once again whisked across the sands to our car, our luggage was transferred back into our vehicle and we headed home.
We thoroughly recommend Burgh Island Hotel for a different experience. One of old world charm, glamour and a very laid back atmosphere. If youre thinking of going. Book it. You wont regret it. Thank you to everyone at Burgh Island Hotel for making our stay special.
