I was in York for a friends funeral and wanted to stay somewhere after the event, rather than head back to Manchester.
There is another hotel in York with a similar name, the Diamonds Hotel, and I had originally intended to stay there as it is closer to where the wake was being held after the funeral. I booked the hotel about a week in advance (I had seen them both on Booking.com) but I only realised the night before that I had booked this hotel, when I went to check the postcode for my satnav, so do be careful to avoid the same issue I had.
Nevertheless, the choice of hotel didnt matter in the end. The funeral was at 10 am, so luckily I was able to check in about 12 noon as the room was ready. Parking was offered at 7 for 24 hours, a couple of minutes walk away on their private car park across the road and down the street.
The gentleman who showed me to my room was friendly and efficient. My room was about on the first floor, facing the main road, but I didnt hear any traffic noise. I had booked a single room with a shared bathroom. The bathroom was through a door and about six steps away, and I didnt have any issues queueing for access.
There was a sink in the bathroom, along with the wardrobe, a small desk, and tea and coffee-making facilities. The bed was comfortable and the Wi-Fi fast and reliable.
Everything was spotlessly clean and of a good standard. No breakfast is provided on-site, but you are just a couple of minutes away from the city centre.
The hotel served its purpose for me, and if you are looking for a great value stay in the city centre, Id highly recommend it.
