Breakfast was abundant and nutritious. Staff was friendly. Christmas eve dinner was pleasant, but food was mediocre for the price.

When checking in, we were asked to upgrade our room which was already over $1000 per night. They wanted us to get a bigger room for $1600 per night. Who does this?? For Christmas day lunch, we were seated next to a restaurant door where staff traffic was constant. About half way during our meal, they wanted to move us to a better location. I refused as we were in the middle of a meal. They obviously knew it was a bad table. The lunch was nearly $400 for two of us, that table should never have been given to us. The front desk Staff misled us as to directions to an opera house. We went out of our way by taking a boat that was not necessary and nearly missed our concert. After Christmas eve dinner, I wanted to settle my bill and tip the staff. The Restaurant manager told us that tips are taken away by the hotel, and they wanted only cash, this is simply not done in a 5 star facility. At checkout time, I wanted to settle my bill by paying some of the bill with cash. The math was too overwhelming for the person helping us, and she began to feel dizzy. She walked away leaving me at the front desk for 15 mins before she felt better to finish the check out process. It was obvious that she was afraid to make an error, so her brain blew a fuse. Our private water taxi back to the airport, ordered by our hotel, was 15 mins late. I would take one star away from this hotel.

An unforgettable old world hotel in Venice

Its an absolutely gorgeous grand old Italian property. Elegant, beautiful, a distinctive and impressive hotel. The room was well appointed and comfortable. The bathroom was large all marble. Room has all the niceties - complimentary water, mini bar, hood storage, free WiFi, English language channels on TV and an incredible view of the lagoon. Room 304. The staff at the Dandolo Bar and the Restaurant were attentive and charming. The food was always fantastic - but it can be really rich!!! Breakfast buffet with a view was lovely. It was a stunning hotel! Excellent location just off the craziness of Saint Marks Square.

In a room the size we had would have preferred a couch to two small chairs since there was sufficient space to accommodate it.
