Would you like to visit the summer capital of Uttarakhand? If yes, then you should soon travel to Gairsain, as the Chief Minister of the state, Trivendra Singh Rawat, declared that it would soon become the summer capital. He made the announcement in the state assembly just after the declaration of the budget.

Why Does Having a Summer Capital Matters?

It has been known for some time that people had a demand for making Gairsain the capital right from the time when Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh. The town is about 280 KM from Dehradun, the winter capital of the state. The Chief Minister said that he dedicates the announcement to everyone who was a part of the demand. Uttarakhand has also become the second state to have a dual capital after the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister also announced that work needs to take place in several parts of the state as well as near Gairsain to make it functional as the state capital. They will be focusing primarily on Bharairisain, which is about 14 KM from Gairsain, and it faces an acute water shortage. Also, the assembly building is situated at Baharairisain. The government plans to develop a lake to mitigate the water-related problems faced in Bharairisain as well as in Gairsain.
