Art Gallery of South Australia

The Art Gallery of South Australia features one of the biggest art collections in Australia and is located in the heart of Adelaide. It is housed in a 19th Century styled building and houses over 47,000 works of art and counting. They feature artwork from all around the world as well as extensive Aboriginal art by indigenous artists. It will take you through a unique cultural and thematic experience spanning from ancient Rome to the present day. There are permanent exhibitions with high quality original artworks as well as temporary exhibitions that include sculptures, paintings, ceramics, furniture, jewelry metalwork, glass and textiles.

It is also a premier visual arts museum in South Australia and the only space dedicated to Islamic art in Australia. You can opt for a gallery tour with a guide which is ticketed. There are sessions to enjoy at The Studio with Jasmine Crisp and there are free facilitated sessions for school children. You can enjoy music, art making, tours and performances on the first Sunday of every month which are all free. Other things to do include discovering a selection of books, gifts and homewares based on the gallery’s exhibition.
