Shahi Burj, Agra Overview

The Shahi Burj, or Royal Tower, is a lesser-known but historically significant part of the Agra Fort complex. Located near the Diwan-i-Khas, this elegant three-storey octagonal tower once served as the private working space of Emperor Shah Jahan. It is believed that from here, he supervised the construction of the Taj Mahal and later spent time in contemplation.

The tower features intricate Mughal architecture with delicate marble inlay work and arched pavilions. Though partially in ruins today, the Shahi Burj offers a unique glimpse into the emperor’s personal life and the architectural finesse of the Mughal era. Its location within the fort also provides stunning views of the Yamuna River and the Taj Mahal in the distance.
