There are monuments & structures that at the first glance can overwhelm a person by their sheer magnitude, scale or design, Taj Mahal is one of the few that overwhelms you by its beauty. Made in Whit (Read More)e marble which shines under the bright sun & contrasts against the blue, the monument itself along with its minarets aligned in perfect precision with the Yamuna river (if the water is released from the dams & flowing) in full flow imprints the first picture in the mind of the visitor that is everlasting. What spoils the experience for most visitors over there are the long queues, large number. of people (probably true for any world wonder site especially in peak season) and the large number. of touts. However one of the better places to view the Taj in relative peace is from the Mehtab Bagh especially at the time os sunset which was old garden used the Mughal royals and from here the white marble monument can be seen in the background of the Yamuna river with the sun playing its magic through varying the subtle colour & shades of the grand monument. Also the view of the monument from the Agra Fort in morning almost from where Shah Jahan must have watched it over the years of his life is worth looking at as the world wonder plays around behind its white overtones with various shades of blue & orange. Below is a photo presentation of the various shades of Taj & the sites around Agra. "Link Hidden"

- Agra Development Authority (ADA) charges admission fees which covers Taj Mahal and other monuments such as the Agra Fort. Do not forget to carry the ticket in order to avoid repaying the fare.
- (Read More) Don't go overboard on the chaat spree. Ensure level of hygiene before you eat.
- Be careful while hiring a guide. A lot of times the guides you see at Taj Mahal or Agra Fort will offer their services and scam you.

Although Agra is famous for the Taj Mahal, but Agra Fort mesmerised me more, not because of the architecture but because of the way our guide explained things that all of what we had read in our hist (Read More)ory books seemed to come alive! We were shown the Diwan-i-aam, Diwan-i-khaas, the place where Shahjahan was kept captive by Aurangzeb, Shish Mahal, Roshanara Mahal, Jahanara Mahal etc. Despite being summer, the weather was cloudy to our comfort. We spent three hours here, but it seemed to be too less for me! One can try the famous "Agra ka Petha" from the local sweet shops nearby.

If you are a history buff like my mom or an architecture enthusiast like me, then you will love Agra in all its grandeur and glory! I went there for a family friend's destination wedding and did a fu (Read More)ll tour of Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, and the Agra Fort. Taj Mahal is rightly one of the seven wonders as apart from its beautiful architecture, it has geometric, detailed designs. Fatehpur Sikri, an old Mughal capital consisting of the Buland Darwaza, is a must visit. I made sure to buy a variety of 'pethas' from Panchhi Petha and bought a few leather shoes and bags straight from the factories at very low prices.

A lot of things are unique to the Taj Mahal and a lot of them unmatched by other monuments around the world. But the symmetry of the building, especially when you look at it from a distance at dead-c (Read More)enter, is quite spellbinding. The towering minars and the white grandeur of the tomb is very enchanting. The Taj Mahal gives you a certain feeling and its the feeling you that keeps wanting you to go back.

You can never be prepared for the beauty of the Taj Mahal. I have visited the Taj Mahal a couple of times and each time, it has left me spellbound. The architecture is unmatched. The carvings are bea (Read More)utiful. The gardens are very well-maintained. There is a reason so much literature has been written about this place but no words can actually match the grandeur of this monument. It is especially beautiful at the time of sunrise as the sun highlights it and also during the night when the moon shines on it in all its glory.

I went to Agra by train. The minute I got down at the railway station, there were hundreds of men and women selling the famous Agra ka petha. That, and the chaats, are the only food that I consumed w (Read More)hile I was there as it was delicious. Agra, of course, is famous for Taj Mahal but that is not all that there is to it. Every monument is just beautiful. The Mughal architecture can be admired for hours without getting tired. Agra has a lot of tales of love and bravery to tell you and so, I feel everyone should hire a GOOD guide while there. A guide will be able to tell you the historical significance of the place and also guide you as to where to eat and everything.
