Big Almaty Lake is set at an elevation of 2,511 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views of turquoise waters surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The lake is part of a protected nature reserve, so visitors are not allowed to swim or approach its shores. However, the panoramic vistas of the lake and the surrounding Tien Shan mountains make it an ideal spot for photography, and sightseeing.
Situated at an elevation of approximately 2,510 meters above sea level, Big Almaty Lake captivates visitors with its breathtaking beauty and the surrounding majestic peaks. Although camping by the lake is prohibited, the nearby area provides plenty of opportunities for picnicking and exploring. Adventurers can embark on the hike up to Big Almaty Peak, a popular route offering spectacular views, though caution is advised due to the terrain. You can also visit the nearby Sunkar Falconry Center which hosts daily bird-of-prey shows during the summer.
Access to the lake requires a short drive from Almaty followed by a hike or drive up a mountain road. Visitors can indulge in hiking, photography, and simply taking in the serene ambiance while marveling at the crystal-clear waters and the panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
