The Byzantine Basilica is the ruins of a 6th-century church located in the Amman Citadel. The remains of a central nave and two side aisles, stunning Corinthian capitals decorated with Acanthus leaves taken from the Temple of Hercules, and columns engraved in Greek can also be seen.
This is because many of the parts used for this church were from the Temple of Hercules. There is also evidence of rectangular ruins here which are speculated to have been rooms added by the Umayyads later. The Basilica is located inside the Amman citadel and other popular attractions such as the Temple of Hercules and the Archaeological Museum. It is a popular photo spot and the view of the city of Amman from here is rather stunning.
