The Cave of the Seven Sleepers is a historical site located in the Al Rajib village to the East of Amman. Legend believes that seven men escaped religious persecution and hid from the Roman Emperor Decius in this Cave and miraculously emerged 300 years later. The Cave was discovered in 1963 and contains eight small graves and a ventilation duct. There is a hole in one of the tombs through which you can see a collection of human bones.
The entrance to the Cave is small and points south towards Mecca. The Cave is divided into three sections, while above and below the Cave are mosques. There is also a Byzantine cemetery nearby. There are also the remnants of structures from quite a few cultures like the Romans, the Persians, the Canaanites, the Babylonians, and the Byzantines. The Cave is near the Sabah bus station and approximately a fifteen-minute bus ride from Amman's Wihdat Station.
