Jesal Toral Samadhi, Anjar Overview

The Jesal Toral Samadhi is found in Anjar, Kutch, Gujarat. It is the resting place of a noble, errant man Jesal and his divine love, Turi. This samadhi-temple is a small, tiled shed with Islamic patterns, sacred to Jesar.

While the samadhi itself is more of a customary commemoration that has an on-site merchandise stand, it is the story behind this attraction that is charming. There are quite a few handicraft and other related souvenir stores close to the temple, in addition to parking facilities on its premises.

History of Jesal Toral Samadhi

It is believed that Jesar had sinned greatly, destroying land and killing people. Turi was a beautiful, renowned devotee and lover of divinity and belonged to a sect of ascetics that granted wishes. Jesar wished to take her by force but failed. When he approached this sect in the guise of an ascetic, he was caught but was given an opportunity to ask for a wish.

On asking for Turi, his wish was granted with the condition that he must become an ascetic. He failed, his volition feeling restrained. Keeping the balance of the promise, Turi moulded him and made him a model ascetic. He earned her affection and they lived in Anjar together.

How to Reach Jesal Toral Samadhi

This crematorial temple is situated within the city centre of Anjar. However, Anjar is not very well-connected to other prominent points in the country. There are efficient bus routes to Jesal Toral Samadhi from nearby cities such as Indore, Surat, Rajkot, Palanpur and Udaipur.
