Walong in Mishmi dialect means "Place full of Bamboo". It is situated 1094 meters above sea level on the west bank of Lohit river. This place holds great historical importance because the Indian martyrs sacrificed their lives here when the Chinese invasion took place in 1962.
Because Walong is just 20 Km away from the India - China border this place was under a massive influence at the time. There is a famous Namti valley which has a memorial built to commemorate the bravery of those martyrs
