Antwerp Zoo

Zoo Antwerpen, established in 1843, is one of the world's oldest zoos, located adjacent to Antwerp's Central Station. Spanning approximately 10 hectares, it houses over 5,000 animals across 950 species. Visitors are drawn to its rich history, diverse animal collection, and notable architectural features, including the Egyptian Temple and Moorish Temple.

Zoo Antwerpen is home to several historic architectural structures that reflect the rich heritage of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Egyptian Temple, built in 1856 as an elephant house, embodies the era's fascination with ancient cultures through its distinctive design. The Moorish Temple, constructed in 1885 and now housing okapis, features intricate Moorish-inspired architecture. The Reptile Building, completed in 1901, resembles a Greek temple and serves as a habitat for various reptile species. Additionally, the Aquarium, designed by Emile Thielens in 1910, showcases diverse aquatic life, adding to the zoo's unique charm and appeal.
