Arthur’s Pass Village is a small, quiet alpine village located in the Southern Alps in New Zealand’s South Island. It is an ideal point to stop off between Christ Church and the West Coast. It is also the starting point of many trails to Arthur’s Pass which climbs over 900m through Arthur’s Pass National Park. So, it is the perfect base to start your exploration of Arthur’s Park. It is one of the most scenic places to visit and a beautiful pass across the Southern Alps.
It is approximately a 2-hour drive from Christchurch and a 1-hour drive from Greymouth and is the perfect place for a day visit. The first Visitors Centre for a national park in New Zealand was built here. The building house museum displays on the history of the area. Three iconic walks begin from here; Devil’s Punchbowl, Avalanche Peak and Bealey Valley. You can find accommodation in hotels or opt to camp here. You can stop at Arthur’s Pass Café which is an iconic Kiwi café serving savoury pies, home baked goods and mountain breakfasts. You can also stop for groceries, hiking clothes and fuel.
