Avalanche Creek Falls is comprised of three beautiful waterfalls; a lower, middle and upper horsetail waterfall. The waterfalls are located in Arthur’s Park in New Zealand’s South Island. This 80m waterfall is a short stroll from Arthur’s Park Village and is the most accessible waterfall in the area. The village closes early in the evening but the track to the falls is lit so you can carry a torch and visit at night for different viewing conditions.
It is a 2-hour drive away from Christchurch and 1 hour drive from Greymouth and you can park your car at Arthur’s Pass Village. The track is easy and there is minimal elevation. You can notice small trout and other marine life in the creek from the bridge which is also a viewing spot for the lower waterfall. The middle waterfall is visible from the end of the track. If you follow the Devil’s Punchbowl track from the Visitor’s Centre you can see the upper waterfall, and all three simultaneously. You can access the base of the falls only during the day and the pathways are not accessible by wheelchair.
