Martyrs' Lane, Baku Overview

The Martyrs' Lane, located in Baku, Azerbaijan, is a significant memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives during the Black January events in 1990 and the Nagorno-Karabakh War of 1988–1994. The cemetery comprises graves, a wall with the names of the deceased, symbolic architecture, and an eternal flame burning in honor of the martyrs. Situated on a hilltop, it offers an aerial panoramic view of the city of Baku.

The Alley provides a place for reflection and remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for their country's freedom. The Eternal Flame Memorial is also located at Martyr’s Lane and is often visited by the Azerbaijani President and other notables. The site, formerly known as the Alley of Martyrs, honors the memory of the Azerbaijani citizens who died while fighting for independence and during the Soviet crackdown on the independence movement.
