Proyek Penyu, Bali Overview

Proyek Penyu is a collective conservation effort run by Reef Seen Resort which buys turtle eggs from locals and keeps it in a regulated environment until the turtles are safely released back into the ocean. Located on the northwestern end of Bali, just off Pemuteran Beach, Proyek Penyu is a 120 km away from the provincial capital of Denpasar. One of Bali's many attraction geared towards eco-tourism, Proyek Penyu is a favourite amongst families and the turtles are sure to thrill kids. Things to Do

Visitors are given a tour of the hatchery premises, along with a detailed explanation of their conservation project. They are also allowed to observe the feeding hour that happens at 4:30 PM. Visitors can also make a donation at the hatchery, to release a tiny turtle. A certificate of recognition is also provided for the same. There is a souvenir store that sells t-shorts and other products. All proceeds go towards funding the project as it is strictly non-profit.

Tips

Visitors are advised to keep their belongings safe. Do not feed any foreign substances to the turtles.

How To Reach Proyek Penyu

  • Proyek Penyu is located in the Oemuteran region of Bali.
  • Visitors often arrive from the north coast road. The most convenient way to reach Proyek Penyu is by hiring a taxi or renting a car.
  • In case you’re taking a taxi, make sure to fix a price and advance and that the petrol is included in the fare.
  • There are regular bemos and old buses that ply frequently in this direction.
  • Once in Pemuteran, you can get around on foot or on a bicycle.
